Biopic on Carlos Acosta
In director Iciar Bollain’s beautifully staged biopic, Carlos Acosta takes on the role of his adult self.
Havana in the 1970s: Carlos Acosta shows an extraordinary talent for dancing at an early age. His father enrols him against his will at the state ballet school.
He wants his son to leave their poor life behind as a dancer. For Carlos, dance initially means compulsion and loneliness at boarding school. But his talent soon leads the young man to worldwide success. For 17 years, Acosta has been a permanent member of the ballet company of the Royal Opera House in London and was the first person-of-colour dancer of numerous leading roles. Nevertheless, he remains torn between his passion for ballet and his longing for his family and Cuba.
